Over 1400 runners gathered at the State Course on Saturday having great mid-September racing conditions in very uncrowded race situations for this venue. Homewood's Kiara Williams was the victor after 7 events across 2 days of competition.
Chiles invaded Georgia and swatted the competition winning the Championship team title scoring 34 points sweeping 3 of the top 4 places led by sr Avery Bartlett's 15:55. Heritage-Catoosa's Girls ran very well winning the Girls team title even though not having a runner in the top 10 Overall. Pelham (AL) runner jr Mary Grace Strozier was flawless in 18:08 taking the Individual title.
I went back and looked and I couldnt find where three girls had ever gone under 5 minutes in the state meet. In fact the last time our state had three girls go under 5 minutes in a season was 2007. We all thought it would happen during the Indoor State Meet. Instead we had to wait until Gulf Shores.
