Alabama at Golden South

Many Alabama track & field athletes are continuing their season through the summer months. This past weekend, several traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete at the Golden South Classic, one of the most competitive meets in the eastern United States.

Among those representing Alabama, Rhiannon Jaet, a recent Auburn signee, won the women's pole vault with a 11' 6" clearance while teammate Natalie Neely placed ninth at 9' 6".

Smiths Station also sent several athletes to the meet. Amelia Anderson proved that her 39-plus jump at state was no fluke, winning the GSC triple jump with a 39' 3" effort, and the Panther 4x400m relay team placed third with a 3:57 clocking. On the men's side, rising senior Chris Patrick finished third in the 800m at 1:53.60.

In men's action, Auburn graduate Jamaal McClinton set a new track record in the high jump, clearing 6' 10" and just missing 7' on three close attempts. In the 400m, Alabama took first, second, and fourth. Arthur Davis (47.48) won the event, closely tailed by Randy Curry (48.78) and Bruce Davis (49.47). Curry also made finals in the 200m, finishing 6th in 22.61.
