Interview with Kinley Harris of Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

A: Blueberry Lemon Cheesecake (yes it's a thing)

Q: Where are you planning to attend college? Or do you have other post high school plans?

A:  Mississippi College

Q: Do you plan to continue competing in track and field or cross country in college?

A: Yes

Q: What is your favorite event to compete in and why?

A:  Definitely the 5k because the longer the distance, the better the race.

Q: Do you have any pre-race/competition rituals or superstitions?

A:  I have to eat chicken alfredo the night before and drink a medium "Vinnie Del Rocco" smoothie (with an energy shot) from Planet Smoothie the morning of a race.

Q: Which track or cross country meet was your favorite and why?

A:  The Wingfoot Classic XC race because our team went to the College Football Hall of Fame beforehand and then we got to race in the dark and night races are the best races.

Q: What is your favorite memory or highlight from your time on the track and field or cross country team?

A:  The moment that our team realized we finished runners up at the cross country state meet which is the highest finish in school history. Me and our other senior Avery immediately broke down, sobbing tears of joy and it was the happiest I've felt in a long time. That also may be tied with winning the 4x800 state championship which was also a new state record at outdoor state this year.

Q: Is there anyone that you'd like to give a special shout-out to?

A:  My teammate but more importantly, my best friend Avery Cahoon. She is the personification of hard work and I wouldn't be where I am today without her running by my side.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for your teammates as you graduate?

A:  Don't undermine your own abilities just because there's someone else that you think "should" be faster than you. You CAN beat them, you just have to stop telling yourself you can't;)
