Grissom junior Dominique Robinson has won three of the four 6A State shot put championships she's competed in since joining the Tiger track & field team in the spring of 2001. In May of that year, she threw for 39' 5.5" to capture the 6A Shot Put crown as just a freshman. The mark stood more than three feet further than second-place Latille Ross of Opelika (36' 3"), and remains the single best effort in the women's shot put since before the turn of the century.

Robinson opened her sophomore campaign with another 6A shot put win at the 2002 Indoor Championships, but finished second to Ross in their rematch outdoors. So far in 2003, Dominique Robinson looks like she's back in her dominant form from freshman year. In February she won her second straight 6A indoor shot put title, getting back over the 39' foot mark (39-04.5).

At her first outdoor meet, she threw 38' .5" to win the Greenwave Invitational in Leeds by a thirty-two and a half inch margin. With the 40-foot barrier within her reach, so too is 2003 6A shot put championship, which she hopes to reclaim in May.
