AHSAA Class 2A State Outdoor Championship Preview

The 2A division of the AHSAA 123A Outdoor Championship runs May 1-2 at Cullman HS Stadium alongside the 1A and 3A fields. Below is a preview of top entries by event with a projected team score from seed marks and times.

The 2A boys race projects as one of the closest team competitions across all three classifications. Abbeville's edge comes from senior Alec Spann (top seed in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles) and a strong jumps unit including Alloyd Knight and Jamarion Smith. Cornerstone counters with Jahbari Harper (top 400 seed) and the defending state record-holding 4x400 program. Holy Spirit's Elijah Smith is seeded first in the shot put and Sand Rock leads the seeds in the boys 4x800.

Reese Swidecki is the top seed in the 1600 and 3200, and the Eagles also seed first in the girls high jump (Ella Dickerson) and 4x800 unit. Cornerstone is led by Jourdan Price (top 100/200 seeds) and a top-seeded 4x400 relay. Holy Spirit's strength is on the track and in throws.

Boys 100 Meter Dash

Holy Spirit's Nygel Seay and Pisgah's Landon Watkins are tied at 11.19 atop the seeds. Abbeville's Kendrick Carter(11.23), Mars Hill's Isaiah Owens (11.25), Abbeville's Jamarion Smith (11.29), Aliceville's Javian Mosely (11.30), Vincent's Zachary Morehead (11.38), and Cornerstone's Ja'Kari Bell-Perry (11.42) make up the rest of the top eight.

Girls 200 Meter Dash

Jourdan Price (Cornerstone, 25.84) leads, with teammate Mattisyn Mott (26.49) and Kylee Sanders (Cornerstone, 26.52) following. Pleasant Valley's Ella Parris (59.74) holds the only sub-1:00 seed. Girls 4x800 Meter Relay

The 2A field events open Friday morning at 8:00 AM with the boys shot put and girls javelin. Track action begins at 10:20 AM with the 4x100 prelims. Saturday's schedule opens with the 3200 finals at 9:00 AM and concludes with the 4x400 relay finals at 3:30 PM.
