Week 0 of the 2024 Cross Country season saw many teams across the state dust off the spikes and test the legs at meets that featured a variety of distances. The majority of the meets last week were "short" courses, with most of them being near the 2 mile distance. The ~2-mile distance early in the season, in my opinion, is a great way for runners both new and old to test the legs and fitness.
The various distances and meets allow coaches to get an idea of where their teams stack up. Athletes and coaches alike have begun comparing their times to others across the state. As we head into week 1, where the majority of varsity teams will begin to race 5ks, the anticipation and excitement builds as teams continue to dream about program firsts or state titles. The season ahead is a long one, but it will go by quickly, the road to Oakville and the state meet has begun!
