Track & Field Top 50: Girls 100 Meter Hurdles Todd Grasley Jan 18, 2015

Miami Northwestern junior Timetria Mitchell was 7th at New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a time of 13.75. Mitchell is one of only three hurdlers to break 14 seconds in the 100mH. The 3a state champion in that event is joined by Kimani Rushing (pictured above) who was 3rd in the 100mh at the 3A state meet, and 4A runner-up Domonique Turner who has transferred from Lake Mary to Osceola for her junior season. Track & Field Top 50: Girls 3200 Meter Run Todd Grasley Jan 17, 2015

Juniors Alexa Cruz of St. Thomas Aquinas and Julia Montgomery of Pine Crest are the top returning girls in the 3200m for 2015. Cruz clocked a 10:43.79 at the prestigious Texas Relays, but Montgomery came back and beat her one week later at the Florida Relays with the second fastest time of 10:44.06. Leon's Sukhi Khosla will go down as one of the top distance runners in state history and still has one more track season to continue to conquering competition. Last year, he ran 8:59.50, joining an elite list of runners who have broken nine minutes in the state. He is the top returner by over 13 seconds and has the 15th best time in the country coming into 2015.

Leon senior Sukhi Khosla is coming off another 3A Cross Country Finals championship and with lofty goals on his mind for the 2015 season. His 4:05.96 was the top time in the state and one of the top times in the country in the 1600m. The mark earned him a state title and tickets to the Dream Mile and Brooks PR Invitational. Sinclaire Johnson's PR was 2:17.65 as a freshman. In her sophomore year at Lake Brantley, she ran under that time seven times including her 2:12.30 to win the 4A state championship and the state's top returning time of 2:10.08 to win the Golden South Classic. Boyd Anderson's Javon Patterson and Kyren Hollis of Olympia (pictured above) battled it out the Pepsi Florida Relays and leading Patterson to the top returning time of 1:52.04. Florida's female quarter milers are lead by Oak Ridge senior and University of Florida signee Sharrika Barnett. Barnett, was the 4A runner-up in 2014 behind current USC freshman Kendall Ellis. She was second at New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a personal best time of 53.43, the best of all returners for 2015. Sophomore Symone Mason and junior Tamani Wilson have also ran under 54 seconds in high school. See the top 50 girl returners in the 400m dash.

Only thirteen returners in the whole country have run under 47 seconds and three of them are in South Florida. Ari Cogdell of American and Rasheed Tatham of St. Thomas Aquinas battled it out in the 4A Region 4 meet with Cogdell coming out on top. However, it was Tatham that won the state title several days later. Walton, who ran for his club team Miami Gardens XPress last year will be competing for STA this year along side Tatham to make the Raiders even more potent. The news of Kaylin Whitney not returning to the East Ridge track team for her junior season is welcoming news to competitors from around the state. Whitney, who won the World Junior championship in the 200m, has the top time from 2014 with her 22.49 set at USA Juniors. As a freshman in 2013, Amir Rasul was second in the 200 at the 4A state meet. His sophomore year was disappointing as the Columbus standout, now at Coral Gables, was unable to compete at state due to a postseason injury. Anthony Rhynes of Middleton ran the race of his life at the 3A Region 3 Championships sweeping both the 100 and 200 in new personal bests. His 10.37 was wind-aided (2.8m/s), but Rhynes showed he was a contender finishing third at the 3A state meet. Amir Rasul who has transferred to Coral Gables for his junior season is also one of the top returners and won the 4A meet as a freshman. The top 20 have all run 10.70 or better in 2014.
