4A Scouting Report: UMS Wright

The 2011 Girls 4A Champions UMS Wright are ranked #1 in the preseason.  The yearly powerhouse returns  a top 5 that are going to be tough to beat in any division.  Coach Pat Galle discusses his team this year and his goals for the team as the begin their season.

Alabama Runners:  Your team won 4A last year and pre-season ranked #1 this year.  How has their summer running and mileage gone?  What are their attitudes like coming in to the season?

Coach Galle:  We usually have a low key summer training schedule with work building through July. Most of our returning girls have participated in summer running camps like the Nike camp or Mountain Falls .  We have almost the entire team returning from last year and the girls are looking forward to the last year together for at least four of them

Alabama Runners:  How does the team look this year?

Coach Galle:  If I don't screw them up we have a very solid talented team coming back.

Alabama Runners:  Any new additions or surprises?

Coach Galle:  We have a couple of new faces but we will have to see where they fit in the mix.  We don't have a big squad number wise but we have been fortunate over the years to attract some very talented and dedicated runners . This year's senior group has been very impressive their entire career and have helped some of the new runners acheive things they probably wouldn't have without their lead.

Alabama Runners:  What are your goals or key meets?

Coach Galle:  Our goals are to be one of the best teams in the state regardless of cassification, try to repeat as State Champions, and have our runners recognized as the outstanding competitors that they are.  We will probably be at Jessie Owens this year, maybe the Crimson Classic to defend our two time championship (thats our homecoming weekend so some more sacrifice to be there) Gulf Coast Stampede, and maybe another out of town big meet we could find that gives a another chance to run against more competition.  We get plenty around Mobile with McT (McGill) and the Saints (St. Pauls) but we see them so much variety is not bad.
