This Week's Nominees:
Rashad Jones, Foley (Alabama): Swept all three throwing events at the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon, posting 186-8.75 in the javelin, 155-11.25 in the discus, and 46-6.5 in the shot put. His javelin mark defeated JamesDavid Thompson of Spain Park, who ranks fourth in Alabama. Won all three events against competitive fields of 57-58 athletes.
JamesDavid Thompson, Spain Park (Alabama): Won three events at the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon, clocking 10.86 in the 100 meters while defeating state-ranked sprinters Justin Walker and Walker McInnis. Also captured the long jump at 22-11 and the 110m hurdles in 14.81, beating multiple state-ranked athletes in both events. The #1 sophomore in Alabama in the long jump and #2 in the 100 meters added a fourth-place javelin throw of 148-7.25.
Justin Walker, John Carroll Catholic High School (Alabama): Turned in a strong multi-event performance at the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon, running 11.00 for second in the 100 meters and 50.52 for third in the 400. Also jumped 21-5.25 in the long jump for fourth place, beating West Point's Asa Sutter who ranks seventh in the state.
Walker McInnis, Vestavia Hills HS (Alabama): Won the 400 meters at the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon in 50.25, a mark that moved him to #18 in Alabama this season. Also ran 11.26 in the 100 meters for sixth place at the state meet.
Asa Sutter, West Point High School (Alabama): Ran 15.09 for second place in the 110m hurdles at the AHSAA State Heptathlon / Decathlon and added a long jump of 20-6.25. Competed against several state-ranked athletes in both events at the championship meet.
