Ryan Williams (Saraland): Male Athlete of the Week

Ryan Williams from Saraland ran at the Foley Lions Invitational on March 25. He ran a personal best of 10.47 in the 100m, 21.28 in the 200m, and 48.19 in the 400m. He is currently ranked Alabama #1 in all three events and it's safe to say the sophomore is the favorite heading into April in Class 6A.

Tell me about this past weekend. You had three PRs and three AL #1s.

This past weekend was fun. I felt good running in all my events. I had a good breakfast so I guess it just all showed.

What was the secret breakfast?!

Nothing too crazy. I just had breakfast gumbo. I really just believe it was because I fueled my body so I was able to increase my output.

What event from Saturday had you most fired up?

Really all of them. Because I feel like I can go 10.0-10.2 by State in the 100m, Sub 21 in the 200m, and Sub 48 in the 400m.

How were you specifically preparing yourself in between events to be ready for the next event?

I just tried not to think too hard on the next event to not put pressure on it so I can just run. So I just relaxed and stretched.

What got you into track?

My 8th grade year I just did it for fun because it was my last year of middle school and last year I did it because I needed something to do in the spring.

So this year is really my first year taking it seriously and I'm starting to actually understand track.

I assume you play football in the fall?

Yes, wide receiver. We also won State and I won Mr. Football and Gatorade Player of the Year.

What's been your favorite track memory so far?

Definitely last weekend, because like I said I'm understanding track now so I'm running calm and running faster.

What's your pre race routine on the day of the meet?

Listen to music and have fun with my teammates so I don't make it more than what it is and I always pray before I get to the line.

What are your top 3 songs right now?

Lil Wayne - Let it all work out; Future - Solo; Drake - Do Not Disturb.

Apple Music or Spotify?

Apple Music.

How do you best like spending your time outside of track and football?

If I'm not working out then resting or spending time with my family and friends.

If you could sign a dream highschool NIL deal, who would it be through?

If it was legal in Alabama then probably Nike so I can get unlimited gear.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I don't think I have one lol.

If you got stranded on a deserted island with one male teammate, who would it be and why? And what one survival item would you bring?

Probably Arterus Moffet because we work well together in tough situations and all I would need is water.

Have you begun the college recruiting process yet? I know you're only a sophomore.

I'm committed to the University of Alabama for football and I have 0 track interest... but I want to run track in college.

Would you want to run track at Alabama while playing football?

Yes.

Which of your track events is your favorite? And why?

Probably the 200m because it's not too long or too short and that's what I'm the lowest ranked in.

What NFL quarterback would you wanna run routes with? And what DB would you want guarding you?

Definitely Pat Mahomes and either Sauce Gardner or Jalen Ramsey so it's competitive.
