After a record-breaking Southern Showcase in 2021, where the Rocket City (Huntsville, Al.) saw 125 teams and countless achievements take place, the 2022 offering is poised to be on yet another level.
With 160 teams from 10 states, the meet has grown to epic proportions and will truly feel like a regional meet.
The top five teams in the championship race will get recognized as a podium team with a stage appearance and a trophy.
The grand champion team who wins the championship race will see each member of the racing squad get a New Balance bag as well. According to current results and projects, the top 6 teams on the boy's side are as follows:
Jesuit - Currently ranked No. 4 nationally in the MileSplit50 rankings
- The boys from Louisiana astoundingly return their entire team from the group that won last year. We are excited to see if they can top their 2021 performance and live up to the preseason hype.
Belen Jesuit - Currently ranked No. 13 nationally in the MileSplit50 rankings.
- From Miami, Florida, the guys from south Florida have been great for the last several years and are bringing a strong team North led by junior Joshua Ruiz. With several consecutive FL state championships, this team is no stranger to performing at their best when it matters most.
Brentwood - Honorable mention in the MileSplit50 national rankings. They're top 5 in the Southeast Region
- From Tennessee, the Bruins are returning to form of the days of Brodey Hasty and are competing at a very high level coming in seeded third. Senior Brody Chapman is looking to lead the team to success and make a name for himself as another great Brentwood Brody.
Huntsville - Honorable mention Southeast region team.
- The host school is looking to defend its home course after a rough outing in 2021 is currently seeded 4th. The boys from North Alabama had won the meet in 2019 and 2020. Led by rising sophomore star Eric Moore and the 7A outdoor 1600m state champ Jackson Harris, the Panthers look to utilize their depth with seniors Grayson Hall, Connor Capolupo, and Luke Kennedy starting their seasons with new personal records all at or under 16:30.
Carrolton - one of the best teams the state of Georgia has to offer
- Led by junior Noah Martinson, the boys from Georgia look to represent the peach state at a high level and enter the meet as the 5 seed. They have a few other guys knocking on the door of sub 16 minutes who are very likely to add that mark to their accomplishments this weekend on a fast course against great competition.
Wando - South Carolina's top boys team currently.
- This might be the best 1-2 punch any team has to offer and with that the SC guys enter as the 6th seed overall. Junior Jake Leibert has already broken 15 minutes, and his teammate Brendan Gomez is close behind with a 15:14. They are currently sitting at 1 and 3 overall based on current results. This is their first time to attend the Southern Showcase, so they look to make a name for themselves as a team against a great field of runners.
