HUNTER ANDERSON

MOUNTAIN BROOK HIGH SCHOOL

What was your most memorable meet and why?
My most memorable meet was the outdoor state meet 2022. Racing with my teammates for last times over those three days was so surreal. Sweeping the podium with my teammates in the 800m and 1600m is something I will always cherish.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition each year at Mountain Brook Invitational. Racing against some really fast 7A girls along with our 6A competition was really fun.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?
Out of all my high school accomplishments, breaking 5 minutes in the 1600 stands out the most to me. It is something I didn't see as realistic until very recently and my younger self never would be ecstatic to learn I ran under 6 minutes let alone a 4:57. I broke 6 minutes for the first time in the middle of indoor during my sophomore year, so this has been a really fun journey.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?
I wouldn't change a thing. The trajectory and timing of my running career isn't very conventional, but I love the way it turned out.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?
Luckily I didn't have any major injuries during my high school career (besides a broken toe during outdoor track senior year). So the biggest obstacle I had to overcome was actually my own expectations. The way you perceive yourself as a runner is the only thing limiting your ability in the future. When you stop underestimating yourself, your athletic career changes.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss my team the most. Running for Mountain Brook provided me with friends for life and leaving a group I love will be very hard.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Embrace your team. Running isn't an individual sport, if you learn to run for your teammates it'll better you as an athlete and give your efforts a purpose.

What are your post-high school or college plans? Who would you like to say thank you to?
I am running at Mississippi State University. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, and parents.
