Daisy Luna, Hoover High School
On January 20th, Daisy Luna from Bumpus Middle School won the 400m at the Birmingham Metro Middle School Gold Championship in a time of 58.62. Nine days later, the eighth-grader is called up to compete at Last Chance for Hoover High School and she delivered a huge PR running 56.98. Coach Christopher Schmitt has a really special talent on his team for the next 4.5 years and he can't say enough about her. He said, "I am extremely excited about Daisy's performance [on Saturday]. I feel that Daisy and the rest of our sprint girls are really going to benefit from each other. Practices and meets are going to be very exciting, and I look forward to the State Meet and the upcoming years with our teams." This upcoming Saturday, Daisy will compete at the State Meet looking for her first-ever State Championship.
Daisy's 58.62 400m is better than 90% of the times by D1 athletes when they were freshmen in high school.
