Life of a Runner Cameron Deloach

Happy Cross Country Season everyone! It's the beginning of yet another season full of Saturdays occupied by racing and team bonding. Most of us runners wouldn't trade it for anything else in the fall. I for one most definitely would not. While a variety of meets were raced by teams in Alabama last weekend, my team opened our season at the Early Bird Classic in Montevallo. We went in a little nervous as most teams normally do the first meet of a season, but we knew we had a job to do. We desired to start the season as strong as we could, and while the heat may have fought against us and our goals, I do believe we gave it the best effort we could at the time being.

While I was most proud of our girls' team, our boys did well as well. They had an even hotter, muggier race than we did for the 4A-6A girls race. However, they stuck it out and my fellow teammate Michael Johnson managed to win the large schools boys race! He wasn't the only one from the team who performed well at Montevallo but he certainly deserves to be mentioned.
While Montevallo was nice, I am looking forward to making the trip to Chickasaw Trails next week for our team's next race. Hopefully we can have another successful Saturday there as well.
