Anna Adams (McGill-Toolen): Female Athlete of the Week

Anna Adams (McGill-Toolen Catholic): Female Athlete of the Week

Anna won the Faith Academy's Boardwalk Challenge on Saturday in 18:26

First off, congrats on the win. What was your race plan entering the race and how did you execute it?

I wanted to go out in the lead or in the lead pack. Two Pensacola girls led for the first mile and I stayed right behind them. I passed them at the second mile and started to take control of the race. When we hit the third mile, they tried to surge in front of me and create a gap, but I stayed right on their shoulders. With about half a mile to go, I broke them and surged out into the lead.

Congrats, also, on the 20 second PR. How does it feel to break through and not only win, but also PR?

It feels great and I'm excited for the rest of the season!

How do you use the PR to keep you driven and not settle where you are?

My goal is to keep improving and keep being competitive. Continuing to PR lets me know that my training has me on the right track.

What got you into running?

My parents have always been runners. I started running in the 8th grade to stay in shape for soccer and fell in love with the sport. I am now fully committed to running.

Are you looking to run anywhere collegiately?

Yes, I am looking to run in college. I am talking to some coaches, but have not made a decision yet.

Are there any unfinished high school goals you're chasing through the end of cross country and track season?

I am hoping to finish in the top 5 at State this November. I am looking forward to track season as well. I believe our 4x800m relay team has a chance to medal at State and I really want to improve my 1600m time.

What's your favorite type of food?

Anything my dad cooks on one of his three grills.

What would be your superpower if you had one? (Excluding super speed)

Flying would be pretty cool.

What's the coolest place you've ever visited?

Lyon and Paris, France.

What's your favorite training and racing shoe?

I run the New Balance Fresh Foam 860 and my spikes are the Nike Zoom Rival XC spikes.

What's a core running memory for you?

Freshman year at the Montevallo Twilight race when I ran my first varsity 5K and realized how much I loved running.

What are your top 3 favorite movies?

The Princess Bride, Remember the Titans, and The Parent Trap.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Riley Green.

What is your pre-race ritual?

Praying with my team and visualizing myself doing well in the race.

What do you want to leave behind after your time at McGill-Toolen?

Definitely a mentality of hard work and running for God and each other. Proverbs 27:17 says that iron sharpens iron and this has been one of my favorite verses for running. I would not be receiving this honor if it were not for my teammates constantly supporting me and pushing me to be better. I want the younger runners at McGill to know that hard work and teamwork are at the heart of our program.
