St. Paul’s High School junior Shelley Spires totaled an AHSAA Heptathlon state-record 1,979 points on the second day of competition Tuesday to finish with 4,776 points to capture the 2013 individual championship.
Senior Cameron Stokes of Mobile’s McGill-Toolen High School was the picture of consistency Tuesday and scored 5,538 points to capture the AHSAA 2013 Boys Decathlon championship at Hoover High School.

McGill-Toolen’s Carmen Carlos and Corner’s Blake Byrd were named the overall winners at the 28th annual Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Awards Banquet here Monday night at the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel as 96 high school regional honorees were recognized and awarded approximately $1 million in scholarships.

With the completion of the $550,000 track project at the sportsplex, the city is ready to host the state high school championships in early May and is beginning to court future college and amateur track-and-field events. (via Press-Register - al.com)
In March of 2007, Nick Forti was 10 years old and in the fifth grade at Holly Hill Elementary School when an EF4 tornado ripped through his small hometown of Enterprise, Ala. Immediately the tornado was labeled the worst the city had ever seen. The Eagle Scout is currently helping start back the Track and Field Program at Enterprise High School. (via www.usatf.org)
The long bus rides to meets, the butterflies in your stomach when your event is called, lacing up your spikes, and toeing the starting line/getting into your starting blocks. It’s the moment where you cannot decide whether you are nervous or excited to step on that rubber track again.
USATF Coaching Education Level 1 program is a starting point for all track and field coaches. One of the objectives is to put all coaches on common platform (i.e., speaking the same language). The Level 1 program covers all events in a foundational manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management, and instruction techniques.

London Games 400 meter bronze medalist and 4x400 gold medalist, Dee Dee Trotter, stopped by the MileSplit Studio last Thursday to hang out. We grabbed a ten minute interview where she compares medals with Todd.
The FSU Relays have become a "go-to" meet in recent years with many Alabama teams traveling to take on the best that Florida has to offer.
After a successful day one at the FSU Relays, as soon as day two started so did the rain. And boy did it come down! After getting off a few events after a morning delay, the remainder of the meet was called around 3:30PM. (via MileSplit)

As we await the competition season to begin outdoors, it gives us time to look back at some interesting things sprawled out across the web. This is an interesting one, to say the least.
