Senior Spotlight: Aidan Brinkley - Huntsville High School

Aidan Brinkley

Huntsville High School

What was your most memorable meet and why?
The 2021 XC state meet. I remember sitting down with my team right after the race and not being able to believe what had just happened.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition at the Mountain Brook Invitational during this past outdoor season.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?
I think my biggest high school accomplishment was scoring points for my team at the XC state meet. Although I view the mile that I ran at Mountain Brook as my best performance, the team factor during xc makes it that much better.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?
The one change I would make is that I wish I went out of my way more to talk to other athletes. There are so many great people in this sport, and I wish I had taken advantage of that more.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?
I had many injuries in the first few years of my running career. This past year I did not undergo any injuries, but I came down with illness on several occasions which hurt my fitness at the time.

What will you miss the most?
Team dinners. There's something really special about being with your team in a pressure-free environment while knowing that all of you are going to give it your all the next day.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Trust the process and set big goals. Take responsibility when things don't go your way, but absolutely take responsibility when things do.

What are your post-high school or college plans? Who would you like to say thank you to?
I am attending Auburn University where I will study software engineering. I want to say a big thank you to my former coach from James Clemens, Coach Bell, as well as my current coach Blake Borden along with all the teammates I've ever had for shaping me into the person I am today. Thank you mom and dad for being the best parents one could ask for.
