The USATF Hoover Alumni Invitational takes place Friday at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama and will feature Florida's fastest athletes against the best from the southeast and Texas.
The dynamic duo of Chauncy Smart and Tariq Evans return to the state of Alabama two weeks after making their marks on the Galleria Games. Training under the team name, "The Empire", the pair hope to strike back with more meet records and moving their names up the indoor national leaderboard. Eric Kidd caught up with them at a recent workout at Lake Minneola to see how they are preparing.

For the second year the USATF Indoor Hoover Alumni Invitational will be broadcast LIVE on MileSplit.
Our MileSplit team was on-site at the USATF Indoor Hoover Alumni Invitational in Alabama and interviewed many of the Sunshine standouts including individual winners Karimah Davis, Lavonte Valentine, Tamari Davis, Tariq Evans, and more.
Abraham Lincoln Middle School 8th grader Tamari Davis opened up her indoor season at the Hoover Alumni Invitational in Alabama by breaking her own meet record in the 60m dash with a middle school nation leading and overall US#4 time of 7.60s. Davis also won the 200m dash in 24.95 which is top ten nationally regardless of class.
Another week in Alabama and another successful performance for East Ridge senior Tariq Evans who leaned at the line to win the 17-18 year old 200m dash at the Hoover Alumni Invitational in a US#5 time of 21.86s.
