Life of a Runner: Cameron Deloach

This week went much better for my team and me.  We focused mainly on speed training this week and trained hard up until our tri meet on Thursday at our home course. I was feeling much more confident this week in my running abilities which came in handy Monday, which is when we do the toughest workouts of the week normally. While it was very tiring, I hope we do one like that again soon. What basically happened was that we split up in groups of three and had to complete six 800 intervals at race pace. I felt so surprised that my splits were actually even for a workout like this for once but I was thrilled when it was over to see that. On Tuesday I appreciated practice for an entirely different reason besides the running. It was the birthday of my teammates: Erika Kulp, Drew Nix and Hunter Hendrix. Erika's mom was nice enough to bring popsicles for all of the team and it was a nice treat.

I was unsure about the meet Thursday as it was directly after school. However, my apprehensions were soon calmed as the girls got started. I got out pretty good but set back when a fellow runner clipped the back of my heel and sent my shoe flying off. After a few seconds of thinking what to do I ran backwards, got my shoe and sprinted to catch up with my pacing buddy on the team. The course felt awfully slow the more it progressed but it was over five minutes faster than the time I ran at Montevallo with a hip injury.  The upcoming meets I am looking forward to are the Spain Park Twilight Classic on our sectionals course and our away meet in two weeks at the Gulf Coast Stampede. Once again I would like to thank Milesplit for this opportunity and congratulate team mate Michael Johnson on his win at our tri meet!
