Life of a Runner: Jordan Adams

Hello! This weekend my team competed at one of the biggest high school cross country races in the state, Chickasaw Trails. After not being able to train for a week due to a cold, I knew this meet would be tough for me. I ended up placing 48th out of 257 girls. Although, I was not pleased with my time I motivated myself to go that same night to run at a local road race, Doc's Pump & Run. I improved my time by 53 seconds & won the 5K as well as the mile. Everyone has one race they didn't do their best in, this weekend was mine. We faced much larger teams with great times to match. This meet was much larger than our first meet of the season. As a team overall, our times improved as well as performance throughout the race. Our Varsity boys are lowering their times drastically compared to our previous meet. We have many new faces this year that have been showing incredible talent. This weekend we will not be competing at a meet, but will pick up our season at the Randolph Classic.

My training consists much of track workouts and local trails. Usually, I like to train on a local cross country course to get a feel for trails. As a track runner, I absolutely adore track workouts. My favorite workout would be the dreadful Mile Repeats. I run the 1600m on my school's track team, so I am fond of 4 laps around the track. My weekly mileage is near 45 miles or more. It's very tough for me to fit in a long run due to lack of safety in my area. I do as much as I can while trying not to over-train and gain a nagging injury.

I hope everyone else is enjoying the new season as much as I am. In the end, it's not about the trophies, the fame, or even the time you come in. It's about doing what you love and having faith in yourself.
