Mountain Brook 4x800 wins national championship

Mountain Brook's 4x800m team of Jake Stephens, Lee Bailey, Hill Sewell, and Nicholas Lepley (pictured),captured the national title at the Nike Indoor Championships this weekend in Landover, Maryland. The foursome combined for a time of 7:53.32 to add a national championship to the state record they set last month in Priceville (8:01.12). Freshman Bill Matthews joined Stephens, Bailey, and Lepley in the distance medley relay, where the Spartans' 10:21.48 was good enough for fifth place. Matthew also earned all-american honors in the freshman mile, where his 4:30.11 just edged Hoover's Patrck McGregor (4:30.16) for 3rd place.

Homewood sprinter Ladarius Woods was the national runner-up in the 200m with a time of 22.06 after finishing 9th in 60m (6.91).
