One week after finishing fourteenth at Footlocker South, American Christian Academy senior Joy Griffith ran 17:46 for 5K at the COTR Jingle Bell Run on Saturday (12/7).
The time sets a new state road racing record for eighteen-year-old females. Margaret Robinson of Huntsville previously held the record at 18:47, which she set in July 1993.
Carole Trapier of Tuscaloosa ran 18:13 in 1989, but was not a US citizen at the time and is thus ineligible for the record.
