10 Stars from the Last Chance Invitational

Alex Leath, Vestavia Hills High School

At the Martin Luther King Track Classic, Alex ran 1:58, far from his normal self. Saturday, he was back with a dominant victory in the 800m in 1:54 for US #7. He broke down the race beautifully. "I was hoping that someone would take out the race moderately fast, 55-56 through 400m. Someone did take the lead early on and I just sat behind them and waited for them to die off, about 300ish meters into the race. I saw the clock at 400m at 58 seconds and I knew I had to work hard in the second half of the race if I wanted to run fast. I ended up running a 56 second closing 400m. I'm pumped with my time because I am a long stronger right now then I was and I haven't done a lot of speed work yet, so I'm excited to see what'll happen in the near future." As for the upcoming State Meet, his plan is to go all-in with the 4x800m, 1600m, 800m, and 4x400m.
