Senior Sendoff: Kathleen George - Saint Bernard

Name: Kathleen George

High School: St Bernard

What was your most memorable meet and why?
My most memorable meet was the Last Chance Invitational at Scottsboro my junior year in 2019. It was the first time I broke 23 minutes and I also placed in the top 10 of the 1A-3A girls and many of my teammates also had PRs and seasonal PRs.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
The biggest competition was at the Sectional Meet at St. Bernard my senior year in 2020. Since we didn't have a team, the only way the four of us could qualify was to be among the top six individual qualifiers and there were many girls running individually.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?
Winning Valedictorian as well as my school's General Excellence award stands out the most because I didn't expect to get General Excellence because no other St. Bernard student has won General Excellence along with being Valedictorian.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would run more over the summer and set more concrete time goals earlier on in my career.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?
The most difficult obstacle was learning how to 4 step in hurdles as well as break 70 in the 400 my sophomore year in order to qualify for state.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss most my teammates and the relationships I had with my coaches.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Take the advice of your coaches, set small goals for yourself and take joy in team accomplishments but more importantly in individual accomplishments.

What are your post-high school or college plans? Who would you like to say thank you to?
I will be attending the University of Dallas and plan to major in Chemistry. I would like to say thank you to Coach William Calvert, Coach Katie Klemmons, Assistant Coach Griffin Wacker and lastly, my middle school Coach Stephen Calvert.
