You return a top 5 with a team average of 17:05 this year. How does the team look after summer practices so far?
I think our summer training has gone really well. I’m proud of the dedication our group has shown so far and I think we’ve had a lot of people buy in to what we’re doing and what we’re trying to accomplish. A lot of our runners have really decided to take ownership in the team and that’s what we hoped for.
Any new additions to the team or surprises we can expect?
We’ve had a few guys transfer in and a few who were already at the school that decided to run with us this year. It’s still a little early to tell what they’ll be able to contribute, but we’re excited about having some new guys with us.
What is your schedule this season and are you changing anything up?
We’ll start our season at Chickasaw Trials then run at Spain Park the next weekend before taking a week off to train. We’ll run our county championship and our host meet, the Oak Mountain XC Invitational, the following week, with our host race being Saturday the 27th of September. We’ll follow that up with Jesse Owens and look forward to seeing a bunch of other teams there. For the rest of October we’ve got Dew It on The Trails, Crimson Classic, and the Husky Challenge. This year is pretty similar to what we’ve always done.
What goals has your team established for this season?
Our goal is to win a state championship.
