Gabrielle Washington (Hoover): Female Athlete of the Week


You're coming off back to back wins in the 60m and the 400m for the past two meets. How pleased were you with Monday's performance at the Martin Luther King Track Classic?

I am very pleased with my performance on Monday even though I was a bit nervous. I blocked it out and performed like I knew I could.

Talk about your indoor season as a whole. You're running really well. What has made this season stand out to you?

Honestly, being able to run really strong early on and set good personal records the first few meets.

What specifically do you attribute to being able to run strong and set these PRs?

Trying to be as consistent as possible with my training, as well as taking care of my body, implementing injury prevention things and having a balanced diet.

What got you into running?

Me and a few of my friends joined our track team in the seventh grade for fun.

What has been your favorite running memory so far?

Being able to break 1:40.00 in our 4x200m relay.

What's your pre-race rituals?

On the way to the meet I always listen to my race day song and wear my lucky socks.

Juice by Lizzo.

Do you plan to run in college? If so, are you looking anywhere in particular?

Yes, I am planning to run in college. Currently I'm being recruited by UAB, Tulane, Loyola, UCF, University of Rhode Island, Morgan State University, and Campbell University.

Who are three of the most influential people in your life?

My mom, dad, brother, and my coach.
