Salute to Seniors: Quante Brown, Greensboro HS

What was your most memorable meet?
I have so many memorable moments throughout my high school track career; however, there is one meet that sticks out and it was the AHSAA State Outdoor Championship my sophomore year. After rehabbing a hamstring injury, I wasn’t 100% healthy entering sectionals and I barely qualified for state. At the state meet, I had issues with my approach in the long jump and I was in 8th place entering the finals. At the time, my team was losing to T.R. Miller by 12 points and I couldn’t let them down. Before the long jump finals started, Coach Jackson corrected my approach issues and rehabbed my hamstring and I ended up jumping 21 feet and 8 inches and earned my team 8 more points. I went from 8th place to 2nd place. My team ended up winning the state championship that year.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
My biggest comp came at the 2013 AHSAA State Decathlon Championship. I was in the top 5 out of nearly 100 athletes after 8 events until I had a setback in the pole vault and 1,500m run.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?
I have several notable accomplishments which are winning two team state championships at Greensboro, being named the boys’ track MVP by the Tuscaloosa News, being undefeated in the javelin my senior year, winning the individual state championship in long jump and javelin, and setting the 3A state record in the javelin.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would have listened to Coach Jackson/Coach Evans and did summer track.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacles I had were staying healthy throughout the season and overcoming several injuries from the football season.

What will you miss the most?
I will certainly miss competing and my teammates.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
My advice for younger athletes are to just establish goals and have a mindset of doing whatever it takes to accomplish your goals. Also, listen to your coaches and take care of your business in the classroom.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?
I will compete at the college level in track/football and major in Kinesiology.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
I would like to say thank you God, my family for great support, my coaches, and Coach Courtney Jackson especially because without him training me, I would have never become the track athlete I am today.
