Banana Relays (REOPEN FOR NEW TEAMS TO ENTER!) 2024

Mobile, AL

Meet Information

The meet will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal School's athletic facility.

This meet is open to invited teams in the Mobile and Baldwin area.  Please email the meet director (jbrigham@stpaulsmobile.net) for the password to enter this meet.

When entering relay teams, please just enter one person per relay as that relay's "team captain."  You can enter three relay teams per gender for both relay events, however.  If there are any kinks, please email me at jbrigham@stpaulsmobile.net

Please note that the 4x2mile relay and the co-ed 4x1mile relay are reserved for varsity runners.  The Open 1 mile races and the 4x400m race is reserved for JV runners.

WE ARE ENCOURAGING EVERY SCHOOL TO ENTER MULTIPLE RELAY TEAMS IN BOTH THE 4X2mile AND THE co-ed 4x1mi RELAYS!  THAT WAY, THE OPEN MILE IS MORE OF A TRUE "JV" RACE, GIVING THOSE RUNNERS A CHANCE TO FACTOR IN THE TEAM COMPETITION THAT THEY ARE NOT LIKELY TO GET IN OTHER MEETS!

IN OTHER WORDS, PLEASE RUN YOUR TOP 8 GIRLS AND YOUR TOP 8 BOYS IN THE 4X2MILE (AN 'A' AND A 'B' TEAM IN EACH OF THOSE).  THEN YOUR TOP 4 GIRLS AND TOP 4 BOYS CAN RUN IN THE CO-ED 4X1 MILE RELAY.  IF YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL RUNNERS, OR IF YOU HAVE JV RUNNERS THAT YOU WANT TO SEE RUN A TWO-MILE, YOU CAN ENTER C TEAMS IN ANY OF THOSE RELAYS.  THANK YOU!

8:30am = Girls 4x2mile Relay and Boys 4x2mile Relay (run at the same time but scored separately)

You can enter up to 3 relay teams per gender, but only your A team will be scored in the team standings.

9:45am = Open Girls 1 mile run - entry limit of 15 runners per team

9:55am = Open Boys 1 mile run - entry limit of 15 runners per team

10:15am = Co-Ed 4x1mile Relay (will be run in this order - girl, boy, girl, boy)

You can enter up to 3 relay teams, but only your A team will be scored in the team standings.

10:45am = Girls 4x400m relay (only those who were in the open mile are allowed to enter this race)

Only one team per school here.

10:50am = Boys 4x400m relay (only those who were in the open mile are allowed to enter this race)

Only one team per school here

11:00am = Awards Ceremony

How the meet will be scored:

1. We will give out individual awards for all divisions, but to be scored in the overall team standings you must have entries in both relay events for that gender AND at least 5 finishers in the open 1 mile for that gender.

2. We will add together the time of your top finishing team in the 4x2mile relay, the times of your top 5 finishers in the Open 1 mile, the time of your top finishing co-ed 4x1mile relay, and your time in the 4x400m relay to determine the overall team standings.

3.  That means that the co-ed relay will count towards both your girls and your boys team score.  We want this to be an exciting, team-oriented event!

4. Please note that you can enter a runner in the 4x2mile Relay OR the Open 1 mile, BUT NOT BOTH!  Those who did the 4x2mile Relay can double back in the 4x1mile co-ed relay.  Those who did the Open 1 mile can double back and do the 4x400m relay.

We also plan to sell meet t-shirts at the event!

PLEASE CALCULATE YOUR OWN ENTRY FEE, AS MILESPLIT SOMETIMES MISCALCULATES IT!  See instructions below:

For the Girls 4x2mile, Boys 4x2mile, and Co-Ed 4x1mile, the entry fee is $75 to enter that division. You can also enter B and C relay teams in each of those division, but there is no additional charge for those B and C relay teams.

For the girls open 1 mile and boys open 1 mile - if you have 5 or more runners in the race then the entry fee is $75 for each of those divisions. If you have less than 5 runners, then the entry fee is $15 per individual.

There is no charge for the 4x400m relay.

However, THE OVERALL MEET ENTRY FEE FOR EACH SCHOOL IS NOT TO EXCEED $200.

In order to be scored as a team for the overall awards you must have an entry in both the 4x2mile AND the co-ed relay, as well as at least 5 entries in the open 1 mile for that gender, and a team in the 4x400m relay.
