Led by a strong pack of three, Scottsboro's varsity girls team handed the Mountain Brook Spartans their
first loss to in-state competition of the year. Senior Jill Bryant finished fourth in 19:55, immediately followed by teammates Lacey Wright
and Amy Stevens in fifth and sixth. Tammy Freeman and Olivia Sims rounded out the top five for Scottsboro, finishing in 18th and 22nd for a
team score of 45 to Mountain Brook's 68.

The boys race also saw an upset, though in the individual race rather than in the team
scoring. Austin senior Gaiting Kara, after a sizzling 15:38 performance five days earlier, defeated a strong Hoover contingent that has had
the top individual finisher in six of their last seven meets.

Kara held a twenty meter lead on Husky Challenge Champion
Robert Bedsole in the last half mile after both surged ahead of Jesse Owens and Furman Invitational winner Phillip Moore.
Hoover continued its team dominance at their home meet, winning with a score of only 28 points.
