Athletes walked the course for the Jesse Owens Classic Friday in preperation for Saturday competition. In the next 12 hours, conditions would change for the worse as overnight rain turned already saturated ground in to standing water in some places and mud in others. By the end of the day, a course which is famous for a manacured start became a virtual slip and slide runners struggled to stay afoot in the switchbacks.
Conditions aside, the meet is popular with athletes as the Alabama pre-state meet many had season bests on Saturday.
