Alabama high school track and field athletes posted several personal records and big improvements during the week of March 2. Check out some of the highlights of the week below!
Jada Flournoy (Russell County) cleared 5-2 in the high jump at the Glenn Copeland Open on March 7, improving from her previous best of 4-10. The freshman won the event among 10 competitors and ranks #26 in Alabama and #2 among freshmen statewide.
Abigail Postell (Paul W. Bryant) threw 42-4.5 in the shot put at the Vestavia Hills King of the Mountain Invitational on March 6, bettering her previous mark of 40-1.25. The junior won the event among 45 competitors and ranks #6 in Alabama and #1 among juniors statewide.
Paityn Banks (Hazel Green) ran 15.09 in the 100m hurdles at the Vestavia Hills King of the Mountain Invitational on March 6, improving from 15.44. The senior placed third among 34 competitors and ranks #15 in Alabama.
Karl Ezra Payton (Saraland) ran 12.32 in the 100 meters at the Saraland Invitational on March 6, improving from 12.64. The sophomore won the event among 55 competitors and ranks #54 in Alabama and #9 among sophomores statewide.
Madelyn Luckianow (Homewood) ran 12:02.35 in the 3200 meters at the Vestavia Hills King of the Mountain Invitational on March 6, improving from 12:14.81 set in January. The sophomore placed fourth among 19 competitors and ranks #76 in Alabama and #12 among sophomores statewide.
