John Shoemaker of Oak Mountain high school torched the track and the competition at the Hump Day Octameet on January 8. John was closely shadowed by teammate Cooper Jeffcoat and Ethan Schniper of Mountain Brook through 800 meters, where the boy rolled through in 2:06-2:07. From their John put the pressure on the field and increased his speed slightly each of the next 3 laps until the bell lap. John went through 1400 meters splitting a 3:39.69 before he unleashed his kick. John split 28.97 for the final 200 meters and cruising to the easy victory!
Shoemaker is now atop the list of some very accomplished runners both on the prep level and at the next level, below you can see the all-time top 10 list for the boys 1600 meters indoors!
