MileSplit Alabama is streaming live the Southern Showcase championship races. Last year's boy's championship team winner Belen Jesuit Prep of Miami, Fla., and last year's girl's championship team winner Brentwood High School of Brentwood, Tenn. are scheduled to defend their team titles.

Belen graduated two of their top five, including last year's boy's winner Joshua Ruiz (14:38.79), on a team that placed 4th at Nike Cross Nationals. The team won their season opener at the Cecil Field Summer Classic in Jacksonville last weekend, with So. Marcelo Mantecon dominated the race up front through the first mile and finished with just 23 points and a team average of 15:31 on a course that had only seen three runners under 15:30 before this year's race. Mantecon was 7th last year as a freshman in 14:52.59.
The Brentwood girls won their season opener, as well, scoring 67 points to win the Chick-Fil-A Saturday Light Fever with Jr. Lauren Banovac leading the way with a 2nd place finish in 18:38.91.
