Introducing the New Milesplit Alabama State Editor

Happy New Year Alabama Milesplit Community!  I'm Sean Allan, and I'm excited to introduce myself as the new state editor for Milesplit Alabama. Born and raised in Alabama, my journey with track and field began in a rather ordinary way -- as a seventh grader, I joined the track team at Fort Payne High School as a way to hang out with my friends. Little did I know this would spark a life long passion for running. Upon graduating high school in 2003 I went on to run at the University of Alabama in Huntsville under David Cain. There, as a two-time team captain, I helped the Chargers win their first Gulf South Conference Title in program history, as well as helped our team to our first appearance at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship. These experiences not only shaped my athletic career but also taught me the value of teamwork, dedication, and resilience. (Disclaimer: I wasn't very fast, kids these days are built different!)

A Commitment to Youth and Community

Beyond my personal running, I find immense joy in coaching young athletes at my children's elementary school. It's a role that goes beyond teaching the sport; it's about instilling life-long values and nurturing a community spirit among our future stars.

Building Connections Through RunningLane

Many of you may know me from my work with RunningLane and the RunningLane Cross Country and Track Championship meets in Huntsville. These events have provided me an avenue to connect with coaches and athletes from all over the country. For those who haven't met me yet, I am looking forward to getting to know you and learning from your experiences and insights!

My Vision for Alabama Milesplit

As the new editor, I am dedicated to enhancing the value of cross country and track and field for our young athletes. I am committed to supporting their growth and ensuring their achievements are recognized. Alabama has a tremendous running community that is often overlooked and I hope to bring due recognition to our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and parents. I invite you to reach out to me with your ideas, suggestions, and feedback. Together, let's elevate Alabama Milesplit to new heights. Whether you're a familiar face from the RunningLane events or someone I've yet to meet, I am eager to work with you and learn from you to support and inspire our young athletes. Let's build a community that recognizes every athlete's hard work and helps them realize their full potential.

If you have ideas you'd like to share with me or a great story about an athlete please let me know!  I can be contacted at the following email:   al.milesplit@gmail.com
