Wetumpka High School
What was your most memorable meet and why?
The 2022 6A Section 2 XC Championship. We as a team won the Section for the third consecutive year, and I placed first individually.
Where did you face your biggest competition?
The same place as everyone in the state: the Jesse Owens Classic.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?
Being awarded the Joe Sewell Memorial Award this past spring was a great honor. This award is given to students in Elmore County who have excelled athletically and academically, as well as representing God, the Christian faith, and the community in a positive light. I am honored to be selected as someone who fits that description.
If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would have started earlier and stuck with it. I originally played football through middle school and my freshman year of high school. Had my full focus been on running during those years, I believe I could be much faster today than I am.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?
Like most in my class, the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging obstacle. Having my first track season cut short was frustrating, but I used that period to keep training and make sure I was ready for the next season.
What will you miss the most?
The post-meet meals with the other distance guys. Nothing beats chicken wings with the boys after a race.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Stay the course and trust in your coaches. It's challenging when you first start running and can be frustrating not being as fast as others. Push yourself to keep getting better each day, and eventually, it'll be others trying to be as fast as you.
What are your post-highschool or college plans? Who would you like to say thank you to?
I plan to continue running XC and Track at Troy University next season. Thank you to Coach Holbert and Brown from Wetumpka HS, and to my personal coach, Joel Urdang, who passed away last fall. I would not be where I am without them. Also thank you to Coach Cunningham of Troy for providing me with the opportunity to continue running. Go Trojans!
