Who has the best combination of 100m speed and long jump ability?
That's a difficult question.
High School junior Avery Lewis of Friends' Central (PA) can make a solid claim at being the best high school girl in the country in those two disciplines -- maybe ever, in fact.
Lewis owns the fastest wind-legal 100m time of any athlete that has also posted a wind-legal long jump. She clocked a time of 11.41 in the 100m at the East Coast International Showcase and she won the long jump at the Penn Relays with a leap of 20-4.5.
Overall, there are 15 girls across the country who have run faster than 12 seconds for the 100m and long jumped over 18 feet. Sophomore Taylor Nunez of Universal City Randolph (TX) and senior Morgan Davis of Saraland (AL) join Lewis as the only three girls who have run faster than 12 seconds and jumped farther than 20-feet.
