Morgan Davis (Saraland): Female Athlete of the Week

Morgan Davis from Saraland this past weekend PR'd three times at the Foley Lions Invitational with 23.99 in the 200m, 57.70 in the 400m, and cleared 5'10" in the high jump.

Tell me about this past weekend! 3 big PRs out of your 4 events!

This weekend was definitely an amazing meet for me. My first few meets I haven't performed as well as I would like to in my running events. So coming into this weekend I was really focused on executing my finish in the 200m and my start in the 100m. I'm pretty happy with my performance this weekend but I still have a lot I need to work on and I'm looking forward to running again. I definitely surprised myself in the high jump. Clearing 5'10 on my first attempt definitely shocked me and showed me how much potential I have in this event.

How high do you think you can high jump by the end of the year? And what will it take?

I haven't had much practice in the event so with more practice and getting my technique better, I definitely believe I can reach 6'2" by the end of this season.

You're committed to Kentucky, yes? Why did you decide to go there?

Kentucky has always been one of my dream schools and it's still crazy to think I'm actually committed there but going on my visit I immediately fell in love with the campus and the team and coaching staff. My top three schools were LSU, Texas A&M and Kentucky. I definitely felt like I was most at home during my Kentucky visit.

What got you into running?

I cheered for 6 years and in middle school my mother wanted me to do another sport and she suggested track. I was only a jumper my 7th and 8th grade year and I didn't start truly running till my 10th year because of Covid cutting my 9th grade year short.

What's been your favorite memory to date?

My favorite memory was definitely winning State in all four of my events my junior year.

What keeps you coming back for more especially after having a mountain top experience like that?

I still know I have so much room to learn and grow and as my coaches tell me I've barely scratched the surface of my potential. I'm proud of myself but I am far from satisfied as I know I have so much potential to be better and I use that as my motivation to keep grinding for more.

What's the hardest practice session you've ever had?

I was training for indoor season and I was doing 300 repeats trying to get in shape. That was definitely one of the most physical and mentally training sessions I had.

Details on those 300s?

It was 2 sets for 4 300s with a 4 min break in between at about 75-80 percent. I was just coming out of my volleyball season and I was nowhere near being in shape for track. I didn't think i would be able to make it through the workout but I just had to keep telling myself to keep going and it will pay off in the end.

How do you spend your time outside of track?

Outside of track I love trying new foods, shopping for shoes and spending time with my family and friends.

What's your favorite "new food" you've tried?

Fufu, it's an African food.

What do you want your legacy to be at Saraland?

You can accomplish anything you put your mind too with hard work and never let anyone tell you that you can't do anything.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I don't really have one but if I had to say someone I would say Michael B Jordan.

Lastly, what will you miss most about high school track and field?

I will miss my teammates and coaches. I've made so many amazing memories with them and they have all been so supportive of me. They will forever hold a special place in my heart.
