Athlete of the Week: Braylyn Farrington (Calera HS)

At the Icebreaker Invitational, Braylyn won the 400m in 48.5 and got second in the 60m running a PR of 6.93.

What were some takeaways from this meet? Congrats on your first time running sub-7 in the 60m!

My start was way better than my last week.

Did you know before you saw the time that it was a PR?

I didn't know and I looked up and saw 6.9 and I was really shocked but I was really happy with the result! But [my] start still has to improve, particularly my drive phase so if I can get my drive phase good I think I will be okay.

What needs to happen to keep progressing on the right track?

I gotta keep working at practice and also work on the things I can do better in the 400m and also just trusting the process.

What got you into running?

My 10th grade year I was playing basketball and the cheer coach was the track coach at the time and she asked me to come try it. I did and then I fell in love with it.

What's your favorite memory from your running career?

My first year making it to State and getting to hang out with my teammates and also getting to experience the atmosphere at State!

Do you have any big track goals you want to finish for your senior season?

Yessir! Continue to work hard for Indoor and also winning another State championship. I would love to run 46 this year and get my 200m time down to 21.5 or 21.6. Also, just continue to work hard and be a good team leader.

Do you plan to run in college?

Yes sir, looking at Lipscomb and FAMU.

Who is your celebrity crush?

DaniLeigh.

What is your pre race routine?

I have to chew gum and listen to music.

Who are your top 5 artists?

My go to is Rod Wave, then Lil Baby, Lil Double O, Big Yavo, and NBA YoungBoy.

If you could eat any meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Chicken spaghetti.

What's your favorite track event?

400m most definitely.

If you could line up and race against 5 other 400m runners, who would they be?

Michael Johnson, Michael Norman, Champion Allison, Randolph Ross, and Sydney McLaughlin.

What's your favorite track workout?

Probably a 600m in 1:30 and 300m in 35 and then a short run.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Dubai.

Who is someone that keeps you motivated on the hard days?

My mom because she is one of the strongest people I know for going through everything she's been through.

If you were in jail and could have one phone call, which teammate would you call and why?

KD Young because I know he will call my parents and make sure I'm okay.

If I were to give you an elephant and you can't sell it or give it away, what are you gonna do with it?

Imma ride it lol.

How do you wanna be remembered after your time at Calera?

As the caring kid with high energy and a hard work ethic.
