10 Stars from the Last Chance Invitational

Lewis Barber, Hayleyville High School

Lewis kicked off the weekend in a dominant fashion winning the Last Chance Boys Pentathlon. Out of the 19 guys competing, he placed third in the hurdles, first in the long jump, third in the shot put, first in the high jump, and third in the 1000m for a total of 3,537 points. His favorite event of the day was long jump where he jumped 21'02". That mark was a three-inch personal best from his previous best at the State Decathlon last May. He feels he has plenty of room to improve, particularly in the shot put. "I just started training shot put two weeks ago, and I'm still figuring out the glide technique. I believe I laid a good foundation to work from. With that, I still have room for growth and lots of work ahead of me."
