The Ceiling Is High For Seven Lakes Thrower Matthew Rueff

Katy Seven Lakes has been turning out some of the state's top throwers over the last several years. So far, this track and field season looks to be no different as Matthew Rueff is the new leader of the Spartans throws crew.

Last year, Rueff ended the year as the third place finisher in the shot put at the UIL 6A state track and field championships. As things currently stand, he already has the ball rolling with wins at two indoor track and field meets with some big time distances.

With winning tosses of 59-4 at the Carl Lewis Inv. and 60-9.25 at Texas A&M, Rueff already has two throws beyond his outdoor PR.

Although things are looking good so far, Rueff isn't complacent and mentally he has plans to continue to continue flourish, saying, "we're going for number one in the nation."

The optimism is real for Rueff. He has been putting in a lot of work on his technique along with getting both faster and stronger. He said, "I think I'm a lot faster, we've been doing a lot of work in the weight room so now I can go a lot faster in the middle and that'll get more distance."

The early results are evidence needed to show his relentless work ethic has his goals as real and attainable status. "I'm really happy with it, all of my maxes have gone up a ton, I'm just ready to prove to everybody what I can do," Rueff shared.

After the high school season is finished, the Seven Lakes star will move forward with his student-athletic career at Auburn University. "It's going to be a great time when I'm over there and we're going to get to it. It's going to be great."

Registering the top throws in the state and being ranked No. 6 nationally indoors is a good start to already making this season great.
