Senior Sendoff: Baleigh Davis - Baker High School

Name: Baleigh Davis

High School: Baker

What was your most memorable meet and why?
Track and Field 7a section race at UMS 2021. After four years of starting track and never getting to finish due to injury, and covid, I finally had the chance to race for a spot at state I had worked so hard for this and all of my hard work paid off.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
7a Section race. I was seeded second but spend a majority of the race in 5th. The last 600 I went and gave it everything I had and ran hard to place second.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?
Qualifying for state. I worked hard for so long and I finally did the thing I had worked so hard for. It really just gave me a boost in my confidence while running because I knew I could do so much more than I ever imagined!

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?
If I could change one thing about my high school running career I would change how I approached races, I wouldn't look at mile split and stalk the times of my competitors. While it sometimes helped me know who to go out with I always just ended up comparing myself to others.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?
The most difficult obstacle I had to face was my anxiety. I would always step on the line with negativity in my head and I really never went into a race confident in myself up until my senior year where I finally let go and ran my race.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss my team and the bond a lot of the athletes in my city have.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
My advice would be don't let your mind tear you down! It's really hard to find the positive in really difficult speed workouts but always look for the positive it makes the sport so much more enjoyable!

What are your post-high school or college plans? Who would you like to say thank you to?
After high school I am running at William Carey University this fall. I would like to say thank you to my family and coaches for always pushing me to better every race and workout.
