6A Section 6 & 7A Section 4 Recap

The 6A Section 6 and 7A Section 4 races were held at Bob Jones High School on November 3, 2016.

Mary Claire Ridgeway, eighth grader from Florence High School, won the 6A Girls' race with a time of 19:44.40. She led her team to a first place team finish with a score of 22 points, the lowest score of the day. Kara Nix of Muscle Shoals High placed second to Ridgeway with a time of 20:07.23 and led her team to a second place finish with a score of 46 points. The third team to qualify for state was Decatur High School, led by Kelsey Hogan, with a score of 93 points. Chante Valrie of Columbia, Natalie Albritton of Athens, Sachi Patel of Austin, Cecilia Duykers of Brewer, Katelyn Majors of Brewer, and Sydney Johnston of Athens qualified for state individually.

Connor Sims, sophomore from Brewer, won the 6A Boys' race with a time of 17:24.13. Decatur High School, led by senior George Brown, placed first as a team with 48 points. Florence High School, led by Bennett Brake, placed second with a score of 49 points and Brewer placed third with a score of 55 points. Easton Williamson of Austin, Ethan Aycock of Muscle Shoals, Josh Orames of Hazel Green, Chase Irland of Athens, and Roque Torres of Austin, and David Schafer of Muscle Shoals qualified for state individually.

Abbey Zane, senior from Huntsville, won the 7A Girls' race with a time of 19:15.92. She led her team to a first place finish with a score of 29 points. Senior Katie Snodgrass placed second with a time of 19:25.94 and led Grissom to a second place finish with a score of 75 points. Buckhorn narrowly edged out Hewitt-Trussville for the third state qualifying spot, scoring 90 points to Hewitt-Trussville's 94. Amelia Brady of Hewitt-Trussville, Kristin Day of James Clemens, Elizabeth Holcomb of James Clemens, Sydney Hall of Hewitt-Trussville, Lissa Miller of Bob Jones, and Neda Mobasher of Bob Jones qualified for state individually.

John Ngaruiya of Hewitt-Trussville won the 7A Boys' race with a time of 16:26.50 and led his team to a second place finish with a score of 54 points. Andrew Dodson placed second overall with a time of 16:59.62 and led Huntsville to a first place finish with a score of 30 points. Grissom earned the third state qualifying spot, scoring 92 points to finish third. Jacob Russell of Sparkman, Jean Pierre LeRoux of Bob Jones, Nate Santiago of Bob Jones, Harrison Miller of Sparkman, Jase Bell of James Clemens, and Zachary Smith of Bob Jones qualified for state individually.

The State meet will be held on November 12th at Oakville Indian Mounds Park.
