Road to State: 6A State Meet Preview

Mary Grace Strozier leads the 6A Girls

Pelham senior Mary Grace Strozier runs her last prep Cross Country race today.  Fittingly the returning 6A champion from last year leads 6A again this year.  She has hit 18:26 this season and is poised to go out on top today.  Strozier will find competition from the likes of Scottsboro Junior Karsyn Whitehead and John Carroll senior Lauren Granier.

John Carroll holds the reigns in the team scores.  It is theirs to lose.  With 4 up front the only thing they lack is a solid 5th runner.  That might be their achilles today.  Scottsboro is set for a solid second place.  They will most likely put 5 ahead of John Carroll but need to break up their front runners to out score them.

3rd Place?  Walker.

Boys

Benjamin Russell's Dillon Dean competes at the University of Alabama Crimson Classic

The individual boys title is close by numbers....  Benjamin Russell's Dillon Dean, Scottsboro's Colton Smith, Homewood's Andy Smith, and Opelika's Ben Garner are all up front at relatively the same time.  If I had to guess I would say Garner or Dean get the nod tomorrow.  Andy Smith has the ability but we really havent seen him run the times he did last year.

On the team side of things Homewood looks good.  Opelika might give them a run for their money but Homewood's 16:27 team average puts them near the top of the state.  The Scottsboro boys have 3rd place locked in.
