Athlete Name: Ayleana Mami

School: Saint Bernard Prep

What was your most memorable meet and why?

It was the state meet and at first we thought we had lost to our rival, but in the end we were victorious and claimed our first ever state title in St. Bernard history.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

8th grade year going into track state I was ranked 6th in the 3200 and ended up winning the race.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?

Winning a team state championship title because no matter how many titles I have on my own or how many wins I have under my belt nothing compares to winning a team state championship title.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

Preventing injuries throughout it.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The voices in my head that tell me I can't when I knew I could.

What will you miss the most?

My team and coaches.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Never skip a long run and don't miss a practice. Nine out of ten times he is right unless he is a football coach.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?

I'll be attending Norwich University on an NROTC Marine Corps Scholarship and will be running for their team. Afterwards I plan to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

My coaches, both William and Stephen Calvert, and my first Coach, Jeff Taylor. I'd also like to thank my teammates and my first running partners, the original members of the Cullman Running Club.
