Senior Sendoff: Hunter Midgett - Homewood HS

Athlete Name: Hunter Midgett

School: Homewood High School

What was your most memorable meet and why?:

Outdoor State Track Meet 2014! It all came down to the 4x400. I was the second leg of the relay and contributed to us breaking our school record by ten seconds. The placing in the 4x400 helped us beat our long time rival, St. Paul's, by 1 point. It was the first state championship the girls track team has ever won at my school! I also loved running the 4x200 at the 2014 and 2015 indoor state meets because we broke the state record. Twice.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

The 2015 outdoor state track meet in the 400m dash. I was up against some of the fastest girls in the state, but the competition made me push myself into running under a minute which has been my goal for a long time.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?

There was a point in my track career when I was PR'ing every meet. I'm also really proud of winning the 4x200 at indoor state two years in a row and getting hung up on my school's sport wall of fame. Shoutout to the Dream Team!

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I probably would've started running the 300mH my freshman year so that I could've trained for it longer.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome? Shin splints. No doubt.

What will you miss the most?

My team! Being apart of the Homewood track team has been the highlight of my high school career because they're so fun to be around and so great to run with. We were like one big family.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Never give up! It's cliche but I literally went from running 70-80 second 400s, to running under a minute. Always tell someone your goals because speaking them into existence works!

What are your post-highschool or college plans?

I will be attending San Diego State University. Go Aztecs!

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Coach E, Coach Swopette, Coach Donaldson, Coach Porter, and Coach Niezgoda. I'd like to thank you all for motivating me and being there for me whenever I needed you! Also, thank you to my team for pushing me to be my best and being so accepting when I was new at Homewood my sophomore year. It's been great growing with you all.
