Athlete Name: Jared Melton
School: Madison County HS
What was your most memorable meet and why?
My most memorable meet was Sectionals of last cross country season. It was the first race I'd ever won, had a nice PR and it was one of the most important races of the season.
Where did you face your biggest competition?
The hardest competition I've faced is at the State XC & Track meets.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?
My 5A State Runner-Up medal in XC, my 5A State Runner-Up medal in the 3200M, and my state championship medal in the 4x800M relay are among my best athletic accomplishments. However, my XC and academic scholarship to the University of North Alabama is probably my greatest accomplishment.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would've taken my training more seriously early in my high school career.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
I had to train by myself and come up with my own workouts because I didn't have a distance coach most of my high school career.
What will you miss the most?
I'll miss my teammates and the parents that supported our team.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
I'd say to train hard and don't cheat your workouts.
What are your post-highschool or college plans?
I am going to the University of North Alabama to run cross country and study sports management with a minor in business.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I'd like to thank my parents for their support and my coaches for their sacrifices.
