Freedom's Ferrentino Taking His Talents To Tuscaloosa

The college recruiting process has come to an end for Freedom's Connor Ferrentino. Ferrentino, a mid-distance standout who finished third at the state meet in the 1600 meters, and sixth at the 2012 Cross Country finals, picked the Alabama Crimson Tide over the University of Tennessee, and the University of Florida.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

Overall the recruiting process was a pretty cool experience. I learned a lot along the way, the do's and don'ts etc. It wasn't too stressful. I built solid relationships with a number of coaches through phone calls and emails, and took some unofficial visits over the summer to get the feel for the campuses, the facilities and the school as a whole. The unofficials really helped throughout the process and helped me narrow down my list. Going into my senior year, I was able to narrow the list down to eight to nine schools and also come up with a top three to four. I took my official visits at my top three school and really knew at the end of the last visit where I wanted to be.

Which schools did you take official visits to?

The top three schools that I was looking at were the University of Alabama, the University of Florida, and the University of Tennessee. I took official visits to all three schools. It was really cool meeting all of the teams, learning about their training and their lifestyles.

Why did you choose Alabama?

I chose Alabama because I felt like it was the full package. The campus is beautiful, the academics are excellent and the athletic facilities are top notch! It really was amazing when I was there. I really liked the coaching staff's outlook on the future of the program, where I fit in the program and felt like I could take my running to the next level there. I just knew it was the right choice for me.

What do they plan on you running at the next level?

I'm not totally sure what they plan on running me in, but I'm guessing in the 1500-5k range.

Do you have any goals coming in?

I'm not sure what my goals in college will be, I'm focusing on my senior year right now but I know once I get there and start their training program good things will start to come!

What are you looking forward to the most?

I'm looking forward to being on a competitive team and have guys around me that will bring my running to new levels. It will be awesome living the D1 athlete life. You get taken care of and UA's atmosphere is amazing.

What kind of runner are they getting in Connor Ferrentino?

They are getting someone who is willing to work as hard as possible to be successful. I'm going to go in with a positive attitude and the drive to take the Alabama team to the next level!
