For those of you that are not familiar with a "Street vault" imagine a group of people shutting down a street or sidewalk, throwing up a makeshift runway leading to a set of mats and standards. Now the same people run and vault. There you have it......a street vault.
Growing up in Mobile, Alabama we are crazily proud of Mardi Gras...we should be, after all we started it in the United States. Dauphin Street is where many go to watch the revelry each year in January and February. The street is in the heavily French influenced downtown area of Mobile and has been revitalized by the city over the past decade with new restaurants and boutiques opening up often. Now add one more street party to the annual list of events in the area.
The Dauphin Street Vault in Mobile, Alabama has become one of the nations premier street vault events in its' short existence. Meet Director Drew Bentley (McGill-Toolen HS Head Coach) works tirelessly throughout each summer to organize the event and attract quality jumpers; this year promises to be a big one. Despite wanting to go each year I've never been able to attend. This year I made sure my calendar was clear and this year my wife and I will be there. If you are a vaulter, former vaulter, fan of the sport, track parent, or without anything to do on Saturday, I suggest you make the drive to Mobile and enjoy some great food and a street vault.
The B pit will open for competition at 10am local time and feature vaulters with 5'-10' PRs. The A pit will feature vaulters with a PR of 10-6+.
