McGill-Toolen’s Cameron Stokes Captures 2013 AHSAA Decathlon Championship

 

HOOVER, Ala. – Senior Cameron Stokes of Mobile’s McGill-Toolen High School was the picture of consistency Tuesday and scored 5,538 points to capture the AHSAA 2013 Boys Decathlon championship at Hoover High School.
    Stokes had a third-place finish in the 10-meter hurdles, was sixth in the discus, finished seventh in the pole vault and javelin and was 12thin the 1500 meters on Tuesday to hold off all challengers.
    Vestavia Hills junior Joseph Lee was second with 5,330 points. He was second in the pole vault with a leap of 13-05.25 and second in the javelin with a throw of 172-04.  Auburn senior Sam Hardin finished third with 5,219 points. He set a new decathlon record with a 196-04 in the javelin throw and also won the discus competition with a 128-07 throw.
    First-day leader Timothis Williams of Lee-Huntsville (5,055 points) was fourth, and Sparkman’s Ben Dailey (4,906) was fifth.
    Chris Thrasher of Vestavia Hills and Wes Toner of Hoover tied for first in the pole vault with winning leaps of 13-11.25. McGill-Toolen’s Cameron Ellis won the 1500 meters and Mountain Brook’s Andy O’Shields took the 110-meter hurdles in Tuesday’s competition.
