De La Salle junior Patrick Curulla won the CIF-North Coast Section Division II championship running 14:55.20 over the 3-mile course at Hayward HS to beat Granada senior Anthony Guerra by 6.10 seconds and lead his team to a narrow victory over Granada, the defending champs. Curulla was 13th last year and improved his year-over-year time in this race by 44.80 seconds.
